Visited the Out of Focus exhibition at Saatch Gallery over the weekend - it was the first photography exhibit at the gallery for years. The first Gallery you walk in is a series of portraits shot by Katy Grannan. These two stood out the most to me.
The older lady on the left, she looks like she’s lived and lived well. Yes, her skin is worn, yes she has wrinkles but I think all those wrinkles just show how much she’s laughed in her lifetime. Her blue eyes still look so youthful, so vibrant, so willing. She has the expression that I would want to wear on my own face when I get to her age.
The lady on the right. All dolled up, wearing someone else’s costume she looks like.. she’s watching something turn away, something or someone slip away. Like she had just been shattered or rejected. I don’t ever want to wear this expression…
